About the group We are studying molecular and clinical aspects of HIV and CMV infection. The group is affiliated to national reference laboratory for HIV (Ullevål) and CMV (Rikshospitalet), respectively. Both virus groups are investigating virus effect on host cells, particularly with respect to mitochondrial function. We are also interested to identify factors that control latency and reactivation.

Research objectives The group wants to increase the understanding of the interaction between the virus and host cell, both in cells with lytic and latent infection. This will provide better understanding of mechanisms involved in the development of resistance to antiretroviral drugs, better understanding of the pathogenesis, better quality of laboratory diagnosis and follow-up both in Norway and in resource-poor parts of the world.
